Future Biogas

Redstow to Marham Interconnector

March 2018 – January 2019

EAST Solutions were contracted by Future Biogas to connect an Anaerobic Digestor at Redstow Renewables in Swaffham to the RAF base in Marham. This project involved an HV cable being installed between both sites totalling 6.75 km in length. EAST Solutions work scope included verification of the cable route as well as the electrical and civil design. All civil engineering works were carried out by EAST, including excavation of the cable trench, duct laying and cable pull. This also included the fibre optic communication cabling and all associated cable jointing. EAST Solutions installed a new 11kV Genie Evo Switchboard at RAF Marham including the associated protection inclusive of the G59 scheme. At the Redstow Renewables end EAST Solutions supplied and installed a 33kV Circuit Breaker and 33kV Transformer.

Upon successful installation the new system was tested and commissioned and finally energised in January 2019. This landmark installation now means that RAF Marham is the first military base in the UK to receive over 95% of its electricity from renewable sources. The AD plant is fuelled by crops grown locally in the surrounding area. The installation was officially opened by Tobias Ellwood MP on 31st January 2019.

Thameswey Energy

Dukes Court

May – November 2018

EAST Solutions has been working with Thameswey Energy over the last 18 months on a number of projects in the town of Woking. These commercial developments are part of the Borough Council’s regeneration programme for Woking and will create new commercial and retail property space in the town centre. As part of this work EAST Solutions has constructed and installed a number of private network substations and has an ongoing programme to deliver more substations over the next 12 months.

One recently completed project was the private wire installation within the town centre providing a new 11kV private supply to support the ongoing development. This work included the electrical design comprising the cable sizing, feasibility and planning for the cable route as well as the proposed substation layouts. EAST Solutions then carried out the installation work including the cable pull and jointing as well as the supply of a new Ring Main Unit, Transformer and LV switchboard. Finally all works were commissioned by EAST’s Commissioning Engineers and tested prior to energisation by the EAST Senior Authorised Person.

Key Integrated Services

Alpro Food Factory – Energy Centre

August 2018

EAST Solutions were contracted by Key Integrated Services to install a new 1500kVA Transformer and 11kV Ring Main Unit as part of an extension to the Alpro Food Factory’s existing private network. The works involved the supply of the new transformer and RMU as well as the HV 11kV and LV cable. The existing cable system was modified and new cable installed onto the pre-prepared containment. EAST supplied the cable jointers as part of the onsite engineering team. In addition an emergency trip button was installed and prior to completion the new installation was tested and commissioned.

This project was challenging due to the sites production operating 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Therefore the works had to be planned in with the client and site to ensure all parties were aware of each stage of the project. EAST communicated with the site and local DNO (WPD) to ensure that the site did not experience any disruption to their power supply which would have resulted in lost production. All works were successfully completed as per the original plan and the new installation was energised on schedule to the satisfaction of both the client and Alpro.
